Several of you met Marla Crockett, news director for KERA when she participated in a Texas Forums workshop last February. Marla conducted a panel interview with some of our experienced Texas Forums moderators that I wish I had videotaped. It was an amazing learning opportunity for the new moderators AND for me!
Marla, who became involved in public deliberation even before we met was a great resource in the Dallas area. But worry not…her departure is actually good news for Texas Forums. She is quitting her day job to work on deliberative democracy projects like Texas Forums!!!
Here’s an excerpt from the Dallas Blog.
KERA news director Marla Crockett is leaving the local public radio station after a 21-year run on the news and public affairs staff. Crockett has filled a unique role in civic engagement and public life in Dallas, with her public agenda broadcasts on important public policy issues and coverage of politics and elections. Crockett’s departure is a great loss for 90.1 radio and for the listeners who depend on public radio to bring depth, insight and thoughtful coverage of public affairs.
Marla plans to work from home on deliberative democracy projects and may do occasional commentaries for the station. She hopes to be involved in other efforts to improve civic engagement leading up to the 2008 election. Many thanks to her for years of coverage, overseeing coverage and bringing together outstanding public affairs programming for the Metroplex.
